The Difference BetweenThailand and Philippines Healthcare

Before we came here, we made a trip to the doctor to check on our kids' fever. Then, a few days we arrived, we made another visit to the Doctor here since our son was having a cough.

During my short stay at the clinic, I was really able to notice a lot of differences between our clinics and the Thailand one. Though I find our Filipino doctors better than the Thai ones but our clinic facilities are just pathetic.

During our 4 years visit to Thai doctors, whenever our kids get sick, I'll always be 100% sure that once we go back the house, we will be bringing with us doses of Antibiotics for our kids. That's why, when my kids get sick I always wait 3-4 days before I go to the doctor because it's like the only solution for everything is antibiotic.

I was thankful that our doctor here didn't easily give antibiotic for our son when we had him check. After a series of questions from him, he asked us to give him a mild medicine and ask us to come back after 10 days if he still has the same symptom. Good that our son's cough has subsided now.

But it terms of our hospital facilities , our private hospitals still don't compare with the Thai ones. Our hospitals are still not that neat (unless we go to the more expensive ones) and I was so surprised when the Doctor's secretary asked me to fill up a 'form' with all my details on a pad that has some texts printed on it but she just overlapped it with a blue pen that wrote: Name, Age, Birthday and etc. It was a pitiful sight. I could have easily offered them to encode and print a proper form from a clean sheet of paper. But then, I thought, maybe we're in a cheap clinic that's why everything is low-tech. But then when we came out, the doctor charged us 200 Pesos for consultation. From our the more "hi-tech" clinic in Hatyai, we only pay 100 Baht ( 140 Pesos) for consultation fee. Anways, I guess we should ask help from healthhcare executives like Daniel Neumeister to improve our clinics and hospitals.

There may be truths on this article but I don't really find it helpful,sorry..it is somehow belittling those clinics that you've gone to for your child's medical consultation. I mean, hi-tech facilities really don't matter as long as you get the right service. Please, let us try to be more "patriotic" if I may use the word.I'm pretty sure there are some crap clinics in Thailand too as the Philippines. Take this as a constructive criticism please.

i can understand your dilemma love. and sometimes, the service is very poor. like really big fat 0. sometimes in thailand, even if it's not an expensive and not so nice clinics, we get a 5 star service.

i guess we have to upgrade our customer service a bit... if we want our country to be more competitive.

This article might not be helpful but I think the blogger has the right to express her opinion.

I understand your honest observation with our hospital services here. I too have been into that hospital and I did not finish my Neb session there because I wasn’t satisfied with their service. Imagine, I can’t breathe at that time and wanted to have a nice doze of air from that nebulizer but they seated me beside a bloody man. Ohhh! meaaan!!! I’m sorry if I’m not being “patriotic” here as anonymous said, but this is just my experience. Peace!!!

According to the doctor, my child's visual impairment was due to the bacteria found only on hospitals, and my child was confined in one of the hospitals in the Phil. We couldn't fight for it because the doctor told us that we need to have a strong evidence that the bacteria was really from that hospital. I was too depressed for what had happened. If only I could turn back time... I would have not let my child be in that hospital.

come on people! if you opt to get better service and fancy facilities, why not go to expensive clinics that has "five star" service? you only get your money's worth! and I think this is not the proper venue to "expose" crap clinics in the Philippines! In the first place, I thought with all honesty that these "blogs" are our venue to express how the Lord has touched our everyday lives, not a place to find and read this kind of article that belittles some clinics back home.Frankly, I was put off by this article. Let us be responsible bloggers. Of course the blogger has the right to express her own ideas, so do I..

have you not realized the power blogging can do?it can make and unmake..so please be responsible next time.blogging is suppose to be an art of expressing one's thoughts and ideas, a passion..let it not be driven by paid ads, and if you don't have anything good to say especially things about "my" Philippines then refrain from saying anything that's detrimental..PEACE!

love. wow. i didn't know that this article has caused a stir in the blogosphere. grabe bay. i read it over and over again and i don't see any reason why this article should be detrimental. if we exposed bad things... it just shows that we are concerned... and if this reaches the right people, meaning those people who renders bad service, then there is a reason to improve the service. otherwise they think they're doing exactly what they're supposed to be doing which they don't. when we encounter bad things... should we just always shut up our mouths? same with the anonymous commentor... she found this article. it's bad for her/him. she doesn't find it helpful. isn't this person suppose to just shut up her/his mouth because it doesn't help him/her at all? i am so confused.

one thing i could suggest though that this anonymous commentor, who doesn't like this article and says she has a right to express her/his own opinion... i think you should start blogging too...if you haven't yet and if you do, please give us your link... then we all can have a good example of how it is to be responsible blogger.

i didn't say that we should shut up(well, that's a rude thing to say for a christian) our mouths and not say anything, that's timidity, my point is we should be responsible because once we click the "publish" button it could stir up some emotions over the net because hey come on, people are viewing your blogs. all i'm trying to do is express my dismay over a single article which I think is not fair for that clinic that she's been to. Do you really think blogging should be like this? and hey janet? why the fuss? let the blogger speak for herself? am I ruining your business here? forgive me if i've somehow used some harsh words in my previous comments, but this proved me something today, that blogging isn't my cup of tea coz it can turn me into a growling monster like janet.relax girl! and I don't think this is causing a stir over the blogosphere, maybe just here. one more, I don't need your advise for me to start blogging, I don't need to spend hours in front of my computer just blogging, it's not worth it! i'd rather spend it with my loved ones. do you understand constructive criticism anyway?

love. wow. i didn't know that this article has caused a stir in the blogosphere. grabe bay. i read it over and over again and i don't see any reason why this article should be detrimental. if we exposed bad things(IS IT A BAD THING THEREFORE IF THAT CLINIC IS FOR THE POOR?)... it just shows that we are concerned(THERE SHOULD BE SOME OTHER WAYS OF SHOWING CONCERN, NOT EXPOSING IT ON THE NET BECAUSE i BET IF THIS'LL BE DONE TO YOU YOU WOULD FREAK OUT)... and if this reaches the right people, meaning those people who renders bad service(IT WASN'T THAT BAD I GUESS BECAUSE HER SON GOT BETTER), then there is a reason to improve the service(YOU'RE SAYING THAT GIVE THEM A WHIP FIRST SO THAY CAN SERVE BETTER). otherwise they think they're doing exactly what they're supposed to be doing which they don't(OH REALLY??WHY HAVE YOU BEEN TO THAT CLINIC YOURSELF??)YOU SOUND AS IF YOU ARE USED TO HAVING SUPER TECHY AND FIVE STAR CLINIC ALL YOUR LIFE. when we encounter bad things... should we just always shut up our mouths? same with the anonymous commentor... she found this article. it's bad (IT'S NOT BAD FOR ME, BAD FOR MY COUNTRY..ANYWAYS, WHERE ARE YOU GALS FROM??AREN'T YOU FILIPINOS TOO???for her/him. she doesn't find it helpful. isn't this person suppose to just shut up her/his mouth(NOW THIS IS REALLY RUDE, I DIDN'T KNOW BLOGGING COULD TURN YOU THIS RUDE AND MEAN) because it doesn't help him/her at all? i am so confused(YOU'RE NOT CONFUSED, YOU ARE JUST PRETENDING TO BE CONFUSED).

one thing i could suggest though that this anonymous commentor, who doesn't like(DISMAYED/ANNOYED) this article and says she has a right to express her/his own opinion (YES I DO, EVERY INCH OF IT)... i think you should start blogging too...(NOPE!NOT MY CUP OF TEA!) if you haven't yet and if you do, please give us your link... then we all can have a good example of how it is to be responsible blogger(OH REALLY???).

Well.. I think it's a culture shock for Love to see our clinics like that and she can't help not to compare. When I came back to the Philippines after being away for 5 years, I have been driven nuts by the sound of honking jeepneys and cars who couldn't wait even though they see that there is traffic. Traffic they caused! Every driver does not want to give way. I can't help not to compare but as I stayed longer, I came to love my country again. Appreciate what God has given us, the freedom we enjoy.

We have great doctors but poor buildings. Many people in the Philippines need money and will not care about facilities whether it's convenient or comfortable for customers or patients. Not just hospitals though. Take for example the jeepney or La Buena van, you can sit with only one butt cheek (LOL, sorry for that) coz the driver or konductor has to force you so they can earn but they don't think of your safety. If the jeepney gets into an accident, you will surely fly! It's culture! That's what we are. People don't care as long as they earn but not everyone. There are still many awesome Filipinos who loves their people. It's just culture shock that we get to say or write stuff like that about our country.
I'm sure those doctors would complain too at how small their offices are but they are awesome doctors.
Gimingaw na lang noon ko ug huna huna.
